I am a qualified person centred counsellor, and as such my counselling technique is based on the three main tenents of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard. To me these translate as, I will work with you in an open and honest way, that is caring, compassionate and non-judgemental.
I am also a registered counsellor with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists ), and as a registered member I am bound by the BACP code of ethics.
As a counsellor, I’ll work at your pace while we work together through the issues which you feel are blocking you, and that you may be struggling with.
My hope is that you will experience the counselling environment as a safe space, which will allow you to open up and talk about everything that is on your mind.
I see our relationship as something that is pivotal to us working well together, and I feel the best way to achieve this is to have open and honest communication within the counselling relationship.
I have experience working with clients with numerous issues, such as: bereavement, breakdown of relationships, issues or questions about sexuality, familial issues, drug and alcohol problems, work problems, historical sexual abuse, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), rape, suicidal thoughts and feelings, and those issues which people feel they cannot move past and allow them to continue living their lives.
I also have a wide range of experience working with LGBTQI clients, and have held counselling positions in a number of LGBTQI organisations.
As well as individuals, I also work with couples and families, (please note however, that I currently do not work with minors (under 18 years of age)).
I have practised as a counsellor in both Scotland and London.
